Futures Fest 2010 Rules

- Futures Fest is open to students of Visionary College, participants must be enrolled for a minimum of 2 months prior to the festival. Performers must be at least 5 years of age as of July 1, 2010 and under the age of 30 as of July 1, 2010.
- The Maximum number of performers adjudicated on stage is 6. The average age of multi-performer acts determines the age group in which the act will compete.
- All variety performances shall not exceed 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Any act doing so will be disqualified. The performance is timed from the first sound, live or recorded.
- Original music may include instrumental and vocal. Contestants must have composed the words, music, or both to be entered as original.
- Lyrics, props, and personal behavior must not be illegal, offensive or derogatory and must be suitable for all ages. Entrants exhibiting any characteristic not deemed suitable will be disqualified.
- Vocal categories may use prerecorded or live accompaniment. Competitors must use a CD, with only one track. Instrumental categories may not use accompaniment that contains the same instrument that is being adjudicated, whether live or recorded.
- Instrumental & Piano performers must have an original music copy for the adjudicators.
- Small props will be allowed, provided the performers are able to carry the items on and off stage by themselves, and no more than one minute of set up time is required. No acts will be permitted to use the following: batons, knives/machetes, fire or any pyrotechnics.
- Judges will choose performers from the preliminary event to be showcased in the finals. The highest mark in any given class does not guarantee an invitation to perform in the finals.
- In the preliminaries, written adjudication will take place at the end of each class or group of classes. A mark or certificate of Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Merit will be awarded to each act
- No adjudication will take place during the finals
- The decision of the adjudicators and judges is final. The Futures Fest committee reserves the right to cancel any category.
- Entry fees are non-refundable except in the case of a cancelled category.
- Any performer moving onto the Final Showcase will be notified by telephone by March 15, 2010.
- The following technical equipment will be available: CD player, piano, microphones,an accoustic guitar amp, and PA system.
- Competitors will be informed of their performance times. Competitors must be present and ready at the performance venue 30 minutes prior to the scheduled event. Failure to attend at the scheduled time will result in forfeiting the competition. Sickness and injuries will be considered with prior notice.
- St. Albert Performing Arts Society, Futures Fest, Visionary Solutions Inc., V Studios, and Visionary Entertainment Inc., have the right to photograph, film, and/or sound record performances for promotional purposes in any publications, and other advertising media, without limitations.
- St. Albert Performing Arts Society is not responsible for any costs for live accompaniment or accompanists for any recording packages.
- The St. Albert Performing Arts Society, Futures Fest, Visionary Solutions Inc., V Studios, and Visionary Entertainment Inc., and their officers, directors, employees and agents are not responsible for any and all present or future claims, for any loss, cause of actions, grievances, or damages.
- The St. Albert Performing Arts Society and Futures Fest reserve the right to make any final decision on all matters not covered by these rules and regulations as well as the right to change, alter, and/or rearrange parts or all of these rules and regulations at any time.
- Futures Fest is endorsed and operated by St. Albert Performing Arts Society. Private and Public schools, and colleges are not endorsing this musical showcase and therefore are not liable for any actions or occurrences during the event.
- For ages 5-21, in the event the performer is chosen to participate in Northern Star, performers will need to comply with the Northern Star rules, which do not allow any background harmonies.
- Musicians and singers who are over 21 years of age will not be included in Northlands Judging.
- The top performance in each category will receive a recording package valued at $500.00.
- The 5-8 age group 1st place winner will recieve a $50 gift certificate from Innovations Music, and the 2nd place a $25 gift certificate from Innovations Music.
- The 9-12 age group 1st place winner will recieve a $100 gift certificate from Innovations Music, and the 2nd place a $50 gift certificate from Innovations Music.
- Each Showcase will have a People’s Choice winner selected by audience voting at the Showcase.
